Where Do I Begin?
“Where do I begin?
To tell the story of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love he brings to me
Where do I start?…..”
Dame Shirley Bassey’s “Where do I begin/Love Story” is one of my all-time favorite love songs.
Today, I ask myself the question.
After being away from my website and blog for over a year, I ask, where do I begin?
It’s about identity.
When asked the dreaded question, “What do you do?”, my answer depends on the day. In this season of my life, “Artist” seems to be the most honest answer.
Why?
Because I paint every day. There is nothing in my psyche that doubts the truth of the fact. Not only do I paint every day but I’ve also run out of wall space in my home. My walls are filled with my paintings.
So yes.
I am an artist.
I desire a new title.
One that causes so much uncertainty, insecurity, and also potential excitement.
Writer.
I can hear my friends, “Oh but Shirley Ann, you’re already a writer! You write so passionately and so beautifully!”
Thank you my most cherished ones.
Going back to the question ‘What do you do?”, If you answer “writer”, what will follow will be, “Oh, have you published anything? Where can I find your work?”
This leads us to “Where do I begin?”
I published a photo book last year. On Amazon. How lucky are we? It was a mockup of my photographs, I just wanted to see how my photos appeared in print.
I have to tell you…holding this book with my name on the spine was the most thrilling, exhilarating experience! And I want MORE!!!
So here I am.
Heart in hand.
Ready to do the work.
To tell you I am a writer when we meet and you ask, “What do you do?”
If you would like a copy of my unofficial first book, I would be over the moon!
Here’s where you can find it on Amazon.
